Ode to Club 42

This is an ode to Club 42
If you come on a Tuesday, you'll see what we do.
We play a game known worldwide as Scrabble
We who are serious and we who just dabble

We're down in the basement, under the Bridge
Sometimes there's barely enough room to fidge,
But the chairs are ample and the tables are square
The room is so quiet, you might think we're not there

Except for the banging of clocks and the rattling
Of hundreds of tiles as we're battling
To form wonderful words out of just seven letters
To outduel our peers and outdo our betters

Our able director is Carol Dustin
Her rulings are clear and never too fustian
She makes sure we've paid and evens the pairings
Giving thumbs down on DA and thumbs up on DARINGS

Ventriloquist Victor, oh how he goes on
With quizzes on stuff before we were born
Ventriloquist Muriel with her well seasoned jokes
She is one of our more interesting folks

We toss in a dollar and vie for small prizes
One of the hardest was a word with three Eyeses
Anne was our lovely and wise prize czarina
Then Kay took over but she's a bit meana

Dawn knows her birds and Walter his French
But who knows it all? Jim Kramer, the mensch
Mary and Bobbi and Sue H are so nice
But we Minnesotans don't have to think twice.

Tim A insists on an upside down board
A board rightside up would be severely abhorred
Bob Lundegaard never believes he is wrong
His words are from Gilbert & Sullivan songs

Steve Bachman has a nice way with newbies
Fresh faces also known as budding expert-to-bes
Angelina, Noble, Eddie, Kathleen, Steph, Sue Rhea
Let's hope our hospitality will make them want to stay

Vincent strolls in at 7:05
Ready to win, though late to arrive
Nadine's the best blind player we've ever seen,
Her talent and charm exceed the mean.

Club ratings are in Steve Pellinen's keeping
He tried to explain them but soon we were sleeping
Jim K and Tim A trade first in the standings
Lisa is third 'cause she's had more crash landings

Novice and expert gather together
Unique in ourselves, yet birds of a feather
We all are so different yet we all are the same
In the fun and the joy that we find in this game
