NSA42 Local Club Tournament, January 22, 2005
Director's Report

Greetings,
Below are the results of the Club Tourney held this past weekend. We had 26
players after Lisa, Jeff, Rick and Victor had to drop out. Only one
cancellation was due to the snowstorm!
We took a vote and decided to play 7 games Saturday instead of 6, so we had
11 total games. Our box lunches and pizzas worked out well. The playing room
was very comfy and pleasant!
Steve and I ran the tourney, with tons of help from our friends. Sue Hoehn
has already reported the results to the NSA. Thanks to everyone who pitched
in, as usual! The event was a success, and we plan to do it again next
January. We even discussed the possibility of squeezing in another Club
Tourney before then, too.
The only complaint I heard about prizes is that we had too many! We paid a
dollar for each of the high games and high plays every round. We also paid
$1.00 each for every 42-point play made both days. There was a prize for
highest-scoring phoney each round, and in honor of Dave Lockrem, who donated
his $15 winning to the prize fund, we paid $1.00 each round for the high
play using D and L. Then, because the club is named Forty-two, and forty-two
starts with F, we had $1.00 prizes for "F-words" -- the highest-scoring play
each round that began with the letter F.
Finally, we had "performance" awards for the two players who placed the
furthest above their seed. These were won by Judy Hauschild (this was her
very first tournament!) and Steve Bachman, placing 7th and 8th above their
seed. Lisa Odom and Rick Gentry, who both had to cancel, both donated their
entry fees to the prize fund as well... and Rick even delivered a yummy cake
and some cookies!
Sunday, after chowing down pizza and presenting the tourney awards, we did
the awards for the 2004 club session. Lisa O, Jim K, Megan and Victor were
able to attend, even though they couldn't get there for the tourney. At club
Tuesday and Thursday, I'll have copies of the sheet which shows who won what
for the year, and will award prizes to those who couldn't attend Sunday. The
year-end prize awards will be postd to the web site too, some time this week
when I get caught up on things!
I only snapped a few photos Saturday and none on Sunday, but I know there
were others who will have photos to share.
Congratulations to Joe Gaspard for his stellar performance! Note that nobody
won fewer than three games.
