Twin Cities, MN "Almost Spring" 2002 Tournament (Mar 9-10, 2002)
Director's Report

This tournament was held over the weekend of March 9-10 at the Country Inn
hotel in the northern Twin Cities suburb of Coon Rapids. The four division
inners are pictured here. From left to right: John O'Laughlin of Madison,
Wisconsin (div 2), Anne Loring of Minneapolis, Minnesota (div 3), Jim Kramer
of Saint Paul, Minnesota (div 1) and Nicholas Fall of Toronto, Ontario (div 4).
Here's a copy of Jim Kramer's report to the CGP forum:
Sixty-nine hicks beelined to kick behind and mix defined and undefined words
at the Twin Cities tournament this weekend. A dozen rounds of buzzin' nouns
and pronouns was enough for some, while others if they had their druthers
would play on, those crazy mothers!
An impressive number of geographical locations were represented, and quite a
few first-timers played. Anyone with six or more wins is in the tournament
results listed below.
Division One: Joey Mallick took a 3-game lead into today, but it
evaporated. He may post some
details later, if it's not too painful. I was the main beneficiary, winning
all five games today, including the last two against Joey. Bob Prentiss
started 1-3 and then won his last eight games.
Division Two: John O'Laughlin had a fantastic tournament, losing
only the last game to Mary Atwood, and that by only about 12 points.
Division Three: Anne Loring, our club's "most improved player" awardee
for her play last year, showed why she won the award.
Division Four: Nicholas Fall outduelled Maryanne Lee in the final
round to take the victory.
Congrats to all, and we hope to see everybody back for the fall tournament in
November. Meanwhile, let's keep in mind Sioux Falls the last weekend in
April, Winnipeg the first weekend in May, Chicago on Memorial Day weekend,
the Nationals in August, and Wisconsin Dells in October. (Attendance at these
events is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged.)
All the best,
Jim Kramer
