Kramer, Odom and Adamson Selected for U.S. Team
(July 15, 2005)
Club 42 players Jim Kramer, Lisa Odom, and Tim Adamson have been selected to
represent the United States at the 2005 World SCRABBLE®
Championships (WSC). The tournament will be held November 16-20 in London,
England and is expected to include 104 players from 41 countries.
Kramer, Odom, and Adamson make up twenty percent of the 15-player U.S. team,
and their selection makes Club 42 the only NSA club in the country to boast
more than two players on the team. In fact, only four other states claim
more than one player: California, Maryland, New York, and Wisconsin.
Jim Kramer
will be making his third WSC appearance. He finished 81st in 1997
(Washington, D.C.), third in 2001 (Las Vegas, Nevada), and fifth at the most
recent WSC, in 2003 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). His fifth-place finish in
2003 was the best of any U.S. player at the tournament.
Lisa Odom is the only
female member of this year's U.S. team at the WSC, and it is her third
WSC selection. She finished 15th in 1993 (New York City) and 23rd in
1999 (Melbourne, Australia). At the most recent National SCRABBLE®
Championship (the North American championship) in 2004, she finished 21st
overall: the highest-placing Minnesotan and the highest-placing woman in the
field.
Tim Adamson is
currenly the highest-rated player in Minnesota, but he had to secure his spot
on the team with a top-three finish in the July 1-3, 2005 World SCRABBLE®
Championship Qualifying Tournament in Bedford, Texas. He finished second
in the tournament and will be making his second WSC appearance. He
finished 10th at the 2003 tournament in Malaysia (he and Kramer were the two
highest-placing Americans in the tournament).
Unofficially as of July 15, 2005, the fifteen-player United States roster is:
